As many of us know, People magazine chooses a ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ every year, nearing the end of the year.
Now, why this trend started, well it is obvious. We love sexing stars up and splattering them all over magazines to gaw at them in hate and in love.
Last year, Chris Hemsworth was chosen. This was a timely choice due to his career starting to rise to stardom in landing roles in block-buster hits such as The Avengers, Thor, and The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Many critics thought, that due to the fact that a Australian man was chosen this year, an American man would be chosen to be on the cover. But, this year the British retired soccer star, David Beckham was chosen.
Here is the piece from People.com
David Beckham is a global superstar, devoted husband and down-to-earth dad of four. And now, the humble British heartthrob is this year’s Sexiest Man Alive.
“It’s a huge honor,” Beckham, 40, tells PEOPLE of scoring our 30th anniversary Sexiest Man crown. “And I’m very pleased to accept.”
Although he’s been a sex symbol for nearly two decades, the self-effacing soccer icon isn’t sure he’s even deserving of the mantle. “I never feel that I’m an attractive, sexy person,” he says in this week’s cover story. “I mean I like to wear nice clothes and nice suits and look and feel good, but I don’t ever think of myself that way.”
Still, when Beckham shared the news with his wife, fashion mogul Victoria Beckham, 41, she was totally on-board.
“I would hope that she feels this way about me all the time anyway!” he says with a shy smile. “But she said, ‘Congratulations!’ ”
Honestly, this ‘award’ is probably super embarrassing to receive, but I mean how cool would this be. To have bragging rights for at least a day would be the coolest thing in my opinion. But, I am also a women, from a man’s perspective it is probably just embarrassing.
All in all, People magazine never fails.
And for those critics upset about the whole decision not being an American, the Beckhams’ spend a lot of time in America and both have mentioned adoring the country.
Other contenders for the cover included Nick Jonas, Charlie Hunnam, Justin Timberlake, Idris Elba
