Let’s divulge into today’s headlines…
- Bryan Adams cancels show in Mississippi due to new anti-LGBT law
Canadian music icon, Bryan Adams has announced his cancellation of a show in Mississippi this week. Citing in Sunday’s statement that it was due to the state’s new law that allows religious groups and some private business to refuse services to same-sex couples.
The law is supposed to take effect July 1. Supporters of the law say it will offer protection for Christians who maintain traditional views of marriage and gender roles.
The show was scheduled to be on Thursday in Biloxi at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
Other celebrities have also recently cancelled shows due to state laws blocking anti-discrimination rules for the LGBT community, including Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band cancelling a show in Greensboro, North Carolina.
I just want to say I am so proud of people like Adams and Springsteen for taking a stand. Most celebrities will try to take a stand, mainly using spoken word in interviews when they get a chance to shine the light on themselves, but when they really step up and make change that’s what is so important to me in this story. Both these singers know this law is wrong in our society, and refuse to play there, it’s as simple as that. No up cry about the money lost, or the fans loss in seeing the show. It is the state’s fault, and the people who support this law. And change won’t happen unless things like this start happening.
2. Box Office Buzz
It’s a bird, it’s a plane.. wait it’s Melissa McCarthy??? This week at the North American box office, McMcarthy did the unthinkable. Her hilarious new movie, “The Boss,” made it’s debut this weekend, beating out the front-runner “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice.”
“The Boss”made a whopping$23.4.8million this weekend. “Batman vs. Superman” made $23.44 million, and moving to the third spot this week is “Zootopia” earning another $13 million.
Though critics are calling it another movie where Melissa McCarthy plays the exact type of character she always plays, it is still getting rave reviews on its comedy.
” target=”_blank”>”Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” teaser came out just this past week, getting Star Wars fans ramped up after the highly anticipated “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” came out last December.
