Happy May blog readers!
May is one of my favourite months because I love spring and rainy days!
Here is what made news over the weekend and today,
- Rapper Drake surprises fans at Ryerson University in Toronto with a 6-cent entrance free concert, named after the 6ix on Sunday, also Game 7 for the Toronto Raptors.
It was a rainy end to the month of April, but Drizzy fans still showed up to listen to the 6ix God perform just after 5 p.m.
This follows his last Toronto surprise appearance just a couple of days ago on the eve of his release of his album, “Views.” On Friday, he performed “Energy” outside the Air Canada Centre, also known as “Jurassic Park” during Game 5 for the Raptors vs. Pacers.
Last night, he didn’t disappoint the Ryerson crowd where he performed in front of the SoHo Metropolitan hotel on Wellington street.
“I want you to be proud of where you’re from, tonight’s our night… we’re taking it to the second round,” he told the crowd.
The Raps won the game last night against the Pacers, advancing to the second round of the playoffs, the franchise’s first time in history.
Drake performed multiple songs from his album “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.” including “Know Yourself” and his latest single “One Dance.” (Which is the biggest banger currently on my playlist just saying!)
This is Drake’s second time at Ryerson University, the first being back in September when he took the stage with Toronto counsellor and friend Norm Kelly. But, he did mention to the crowd this was not just a two-time thing, he’ll be back.
“Hey Ryerson, any time they call my phone and say I can come perform for you, I’m touching this stage right here,” he told the roaring crowd.
2. Justin Bieber is in hot water again with PETA over a newly released photo of him with a chained up tiger.
The photo, which the singer posted on Instagram, was taken at a Bridle Path fundraiser on Saturday in the midst of celebrating Bieber’s father’s engagment.
The party including many over-the-top spectacles including opera singers, a Batman impersonator, and sushi served on naked women.
But get this. PETA believes the tiger is from the Bomanville Zoo, known as “Robbie” who was featured in Seth Rogen’s film “The Interview” is the Bieber is posed with.
Now, why is this important? Well, at the beginning of April, Bomanville Zoo owner Michael Hackenberger recently has stepped down as director due to PETA’s release of a video where he appeared to abusing the animal with a whip. The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has laid five animal cruelty charges against Hackenberger.
No one has confirmed if the tiger is in fact “Robbie” or not, but I will continue to follow this story. But judging from these two photos they do look very similar.
Bieber is well known at PETA for being neglegant with animals, including wild. Including the incidents such as, Pac, the hamster he spontaneously gave away at a 2013 concert; Karma, the bulldog who bit Justin’s younger brother and was then reportedly thrown off a second-storey balcony by Bieber’s father, Jeremy; and OG Mally, Bieber’s pet capuchin monkey who was confiscated at German customs.
Come on Biebs, we know you aren’t a terrible person but stop condemning this to happen and use your fame for good.
