Kesha gets some good news, Finding Dory gets a theme song, and Grey’s Anatomy loses a character

T.G.I.F. fellow readers!

Here is what’s making news today in Hollywood!

  1. Sia débuts the theme song for “Finding Dory.” The song is called, “Unforgettable.”

“Finding Dory,” is the follow up to the beloved character, Dory, in the 2003 Disney Pixar”Finding Nemo.

Fans only got surface information about Dory’s life (voice played by comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres) in “Finding Nemo.” In this instalment, audiences will find out the journey of Dory’s journey and her family.

These Disney Pixar films can be real tear jerkers (as we know from “Finding Nemo”), and there theme songs can also evoke true emotion for all various age groups.

E!News reports that it was DeGeneres who asked pop singer, Sia, to perform the “Finding Dory” theme song.

“Dory’s story makes me teary. When Ellen asked me, I couldn’t refuse!,” said the 40-year-old singer.

“Dory’s story makes a lot of people teary,” Ellen responded on her show.

“Unforgettable” was written by Irving Gordon, and was originally sung by Nat King Cole in the 1950s. In 1992 the song won a Grammy when Natalie Cole included it as a tribute to her late father on her album of duets.

Can I just say the irony of the song title? Dory is notorious for her short term memory loss in “Finding Nemo.” But also, how can anyone forget that character from a 2003 film? Dory made such an impact on audiences that the scene, “Just keep swimming,” has become a staple phrase in children’s’ mind since the film came out.

The film comes out June 17th, and I can honestly say I will be in the line of young and old to watch this truly wonderful instalment.

2. In television news, “Grey’s Anatomy” is losing another character.

Sara Ramirez, known as Dr. Callie Torres on “Grey’s,” is leaving the medical drama after 10 seasons.

Callie Torres, played by Sara Ramirez, was a tough, bi-sexual, and witty surgeon on “Grey’s Anatomy.”

The news comes straight from Ramirez herself in a tweeted statement.

“I’m deeply grateful to have spent the last 10 years with my family at Grey’s Anatomy & ABC but for now I’m taking some welcome time off. Shonda’s been so incredible to work for and we will definitely continue our conversations! I send my Love to Ellen, the rest of the cast & crew, and I look forwrd to always being a part of the Shondaland family!”

Shonda Rimes also addressed the depature in her own statement,

“Dr. Callie Torres came into our lives dancing it out in her underwear almost a decade ago and I could not be happier or more proud of her journey. Sara Ramirez’s performance inspired me as well as millions of fans each week. We wish her the best on her well-deserved time off. I will miss Callie tremendously, but am excited for what the future holds for Sara. She will always have a home at Shondaland.”

The departure arrives at a time where Callie has been considering moving to New York, where girlfriend, Penny (Samantha Sloyan) , was about to start a fellowship.

This ended up causing a brutal custody battle between Callie and ex, Arizona for their child Sophia.

In the end, Arizona received full custody, but agreed to make it work with Callie in the finale last night.

So, I guess the departure of her character means she does go to New York? Not sure, but this is quite a sad moment for “Greys.”

This show is one of my all time favourites, I always look forward to it on Thursdays. Callie leaving makes me sad, because she is one of the originals from Season 1. 10 years is a long time to play the same character, so this announcement is no shock to me as a fan. I am sad, but honestly the show cannot go on forever.

3. Kesha has been approved to perform at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards.

It was reported on Thursday, Dr. Luke and his record label, Kemosabe Records, refused to allow Kesha to perform at this weekend’s BBMAs.

Though Kesha had the written approval, the show helmers Dick Clark Productions announced the cancellation.

“Kesha accepted an invitation to perform on the show and she received written approval from Dr. Luke’s record label, Kemosabe Records,” dick clark productions said in a statement, via Billboard. “Kemosabe subsequently rescinded its approval following a media report on Wednesday May 11 regarding Kesha’s appearance on the BBMAs. Unfortunately, Kesha and Kemosabe have since been unable to come to an agreement for Kesha to perform on the show.”

Various media reports cited it was because they thought Kesha was going to use this as a platform for her on-going legal battle with Dr. Luke.

Kesha has filed a lawsuit against Dr. Luke, whom she accuses of sexually, verbally, and emotionally abusing her since he signed her at age 18. Dr. Luke has always maintained his innocence, and in April a judge denied her injunction to be free from Dr. Luke and Sony Records (who owns Kemosabe Records).

Kesha simply denied this in an Instagram post, saying she was going to tribute Bob Dylan by singing, “It ain’t me babe.”

It was announced yesterday that the singer will be performing at this year’s awards.

E!News obtained an official statement from Kemosabe Records saying,

“Kesha’s performance on the Billboard Music Awards was always approved, in good faith. Approval was only suspended when Kemosabe learned Kesha was to use the performance as a platform to discuss the litigation. Now that Kemosabe has obtained assurance, that it is replying upon, from Kesha, her representatives, and Dick Clark Productions that neither Kesha nor her supporters will use the performance as such a platform, the approval has been restored.”

Dick Clark excitedly responded with, “We are pleased that Kesha and Kemosabe Records have reached an agreement and very much look forward to having Kesha perform on the Billboard Music Awards this Sunday night on ABC.”

Keep up the fight, Kesha. You will get results girl, keep going.
