Happy Tuesday my readers, sorry I have been M.I.A. in a couple of days!
Las Vegas- The Billboard Music Awards were on this past weekend, with many moments, some amazing, some not so amazing.
Many artists took to the stage including Demi Lovato, Madonna, DNCE, Nick Jonas, Shawn Mendes, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani, Justin Bieber.
Madonna and Stevie Wonder performed a Prince tribute, singing his songs, “Nothing Compares 2 U” and “Purple Rain.”
A lot of Prince fans believe this didn’t do the singer/songwriter justice. But I think we need to accept this fact: no Prince tribute will satisfy everyone. Your go-to Prince song may not even be on another Prince fan’s playlist. Every fan is different because Prince’s music was so iconically different. So stop the hate people, there will be multiple Prince tributes with all the award shows coming up (American Music Awards, SoulTrain, MTV Music Awards), that will all showcase Prince’s talent.
Justin Bieber performed a show stopping set at the BBMAs, singing songs like “Sorry” and “Company,” from his “Purpose” album.
But the 22-year-old singer took to Instagram the next day to discuss how he really feels about these award shows.
Bieber took home two awards at the show, but in the caption of the photo Biebs said he felt these award shows were “hollow.” Biebs starts off his post assuring people he wasn’t disrespecting those who run the shows or who attend.
“Nothing but love for you guys and your support. But I don’t feel good when I’m there or after.”
He continues on, saying he thinks the world is “rating and grading” his performance.
Bieber also comments on the celebrities in the crowd.
“A lot of people in the audience there to be seem worried about how much camera time they will get or who they can network with. When I’m doing a regular show I feel they are there for the right reasons and to strictly have a good time! But these award show seem so hollow.”
“I get the premise is to award people for their accomplishments, but is it really? Because when I look in the audience I see a bunch of fake smiles so that when the camera hits them they look happy.”
Bieber has been using his Instagram as a platform to keep in touch with his fans, but too also let them know things about him are changing. Last month he cancelled all meet and greets for his current “Purpose” tour due to feeling emotionally “drained” by posting a photo of him and a fan. A couple of weeks ago, he posted an emotional Instagram post about feeling like a “zoo animal,” causing him to decide he will no longer take photos with fans in public.
So what does this latest post mean? I think Justin Bieber is trying to figure out who he really is guys. He has been in the music industry since he was like 12, or 13. He grew up in the public eye, with fans screaming his name. I think Bieber is starting to realize how fake the music industry can be (people pretending to like each/support one another), that it isn’t all fun and games forever. I think Justin Bieber will probably quit music in a couple of years. He had a great ride for many consistent years, but I think it will all take a toll on him one day as it already seems it has.
Adele had a great night at the BBMAs. Taking home 4 awards including Top Selling Song with “Hello,”, the singer/songwriter also debuted her new music video for her song, “Send My Love.” Check out one of the cooelst, trippiest looking music videos ever !
Other big winners of the night include
The Weeknd with 8 wins, including Top Radio Song Artist, Top Streaming Artist, and Top Hot 100 Artist.
Rihanna won the fan-voted Billboard Chart Achievement Award, and her performance of “Love on the Brain” swooned the audience.
