Top Ten Films in North America This Weekend

Over the weekend, the box office was bustling with many summer blockbusters currently out in theatres. Here is how the list looked like this weekend,

  1. “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows,” was the front runner this weekend.

    The Paramount film made its debut this weekend, earning over $35 million in North America.

    The movie is the sequel to the 2014 “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” starring all the same cast and adding some new faces.

    Stars Megan Fox, Will Arnett, Alan Ritchson, Noel Fisher, Jeremy Howard, Pete Polszek all return for the sequel.

    The new face?

    “Arrow”‘s Stephen Amell joins the cast, playing Casey Jones.

    As Shredder joins forces with mad scientist Baxter Stockman and henchmen Bebop and Rocksteady to take over the world, the Turtles must confront an even greater nemesis: the notorious Krang.

    Critics are saying the movie is a very good omage to the 80’s animated series.

  2. In second place, “X Men: Apolcalypse.”

    The film fell to No.2 in it’s second week in release, earning $22 million.

    The film is jam packed with stars including Jennifer Lawerence, Rose Byrne, Michael Fassbender, and Evan Peters.

    The film has grossed $117 million in North America.

  3. A newcomer snags the third spot this week, “Me Before You.”This romantic tear jerker won its way into audiences’ hearts this week in its first week of release.

    The Warner Bros. film earned $18.7 million this weekend in North America.

    “Me Before You” stars Emilia Clarke, Sam Clafin, and Vanessa Kirby.

  4. “Alice Through the Looking Glass” slides into fourth place this weekend, not a real surprise since it seemed to tank in its first week of release last weekend.

    The film earned $11 million this weekend, an overall disappointment to such a star studded film.

    Starring Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Boham Carter and Sasha Baron Cohen.

To round out the list,

In fifth place, “The Angry Birds Movie,” earns $10.21 million in North America this week.

In sixth, “Captain America: Civil War,” keeps a spot in the top ten after being 5 weeks in the box office.

“Neighbours 2: Sorority Rising” is in seventh this week, grossing another $4.86 million.

In eighth, “Popstar: Never Stop Stopping,” with a $.47 million earning.

“The Jungle Book” (ninth) and “The Nice Guys” (tenth) round out the top ten at the North American box office.
