Chrissy Teigen is known for her beauty, her Sports Illustrated covers, and of course her honesty to the public.
During the Sports Illustrated Swim 2017 launch party, Teigen decided to take the opportunity to speak on the necessary strides that need to be taken in an effort to have a more diverse modelling industry.
Teigen, who is Thai, German, and Norwegian, discussed her own experience as a mixed-race women and dealing with the judgement and stereotypes.
“I think its really important to start embracing people… seeing them in roles that are not necessarily ‘That Asian Girl’ or ‘That Asian Boy,” says Teigen.
She added, “I want it to be a normal thing to be able to see Asian models, and I think Asian models are really underrepresented in the industry, especially on the runways or in the magazines.”
Teigen is known for speaking up on this matter, for example her sarcastic response to the exclusively white and blond Miss Teen USA 2016 finalists received over 100,000 retweets.
The girl speaks her mind.
The model says the problem doesn’t stop at the modelling industry. The lack of diversity in films is so drastic that “in movies you’re like, ‘Oh, this Asian girl is dating this white guy’- I want that to be normal,” Teigen told E!News.
What do you think? How well represented do you think certain races, for example Asian, are in industries like modelling, acting and music?
